In the world where everyone walks and talks, here in Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) had a live coverage about RA 10175 and tells the facts and how important it is to know this RA, because he knows, in this generation many were already affected by it.
According to RA. 10175 or Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, assigned by law of the Philippines to prevent, penalize and address cybercrimes including illegal access, data interference and online libel.
The reason why he tackles this is that this is a crime that most students get affected by is to let students be aware of the things they always do. Especially the illegal acts that are part of cybercrime.
Online Libel
Online libel happens when someone posts false information about another person on the internet. Even if it is meant as a joke, sharing fake or unconfirmed statements can damage someone’s reputation. Once something is posted online, it can spread quickly and be hard to remove.
For example, calling someone pregnant even though she is not can embarrass her and affect how others see her. False accusations and rumors can hurt a person emotionally and socially. These posts may seem small, but they can cause serious harm.
Online libel is not just about words; it is a crime under the law. Students should think carefully before posting or sharing information about others. Being responsible online helps protect everyone.
Hacking
Hacking is when someone enters another person’s account without permission. This includes guessing passwords, changing account details, or stealing private information. It is a serious violation of privacy.
When someone hacks an account, they can misuse personal data or pretend to be the account owner. This can damage friendships, school records, or even financial accounts. Victims may feel stressed and unsafe.
To avoid hacking, students should use strong and unique passwords. They should not share their login details with anyone. Being careful online can prevent many problems.
Identity Theft
Identity theft happens when a person uses someone else’s information to pretend to be them. This may include using their name, photos, or other personal details. It is illegal and harmful.
Some people do this because they are jealous or want attention. For example, using another student’s photos to make it look like they traveled abroad is dishonest. It can confuse others and harm the real person’s reputation.
Identity theft can lead to serious consequences, including legal trouble. Students must protect their personal information and avoid sharing too much online. Respecting others’ identity is very important.
Cybersex
Cybersex involves forcing or convincing young people to do inappropriate acts online. This can happen through chat, video calls, or social media. It is a serious and dangerous crime.
Many students experience this when strangers message them online. Some people pretend to be friendly at first before asking for inappropriate content. This can cause fear, shame, and emotional trauma.
Students should avoid chatting with strangers and never share private photos or information. If something uncomfortable happens, it must be reported immediately to parents, teachers, or authorities. Staying alert online keeps everyone safer.
All these illegal acts are forms of cybercrime. They may start with simple online actions, but they can lead to serious problems. Social media must be used carefully and responsibly.
Being exposed to cybercrime can affect a student’s mental and emotional health. It can also damage reputations and relationships. What is posted online can stay there for a long time.
As one attorney stated, “These actions are not a joke, they are crimes.” These behaviors should never be normalized. Reporting incidents and spreading awareness can help protect students from harm.
